Produce, Picnics, and Patriotic Pops at the Parish
On July 3, 2009 Divine Savior in partnership with the Binford Redevelopment and Growth organization (BRAG) held a Independence Day celebration. Earlier in the afternoon several vendors gathered for a farmers market. Marco's Pizza donated proceeds of pizza sales to the bell tower landscaping fund. Our members Dan and Sophia Anderson sold plants at a suggested donation price for the landscaping fund as well. In the evening the Indiana Army National Guard 38th Division Band entertained dozens of people from the BRAG area.
40th Anniversary Celebration
Divine Savior was incorporated on August 29, 1969. Forty years later on September 20 we gave thanks to God for his grace in divine services. Rev. David Rutschow, president of the WELS Southeastern Wisconsin District, was the guest preacher. A catered dinner and entertainment followed the service.

Women's Ministries meeting October 2009
The guest speaker at the October meeting of Women's Ministries was Jill Doering, (daughter of John and Jan Boggs). Jill spoke about the Lutheran Women's Missionary Society. Displayed on the tables were the flags of the 25 countries where WELS missionaries serve. Jill explained that her passion for LWMS began when her family lived in Apacheland, where her husband served for six years as a missionary in Bylas, AZ. The LWMS encouraged and supported her family while they carried out their ministry there. Jill now serves on the Board of Directors of the LWMS and is the Secretary of LWMS. Her family now resides in Lake Mills, WI. Jill encouraged the women of Divine Savior to be involved in LWMS. First and foremost, pray for our missionaries, and particularly our Befriend a Mission missionary, Rev. Peter Martin, who is serving in Malawi, Africa. Sending cards and letters to Pr. Martin and his family is a tangible way to be involved in supporting mission work. Attending fall and spring Rallies and the Annual LWMS Rally are ways to "increase interest in and to support mission endeavors which are a part of or in the interest of the WELS."  Jill informed the ladies that the next two annual LWMS Rallies will be held fairly close to Indy - in St. Louis in June 2010 and Milwaukee in June 2011.  She shared her enthusiasm for these rallies and urged the ladies of Divine Savior to make an effort to attend one of these inspirationally uplifting experiences. Jill reported on the significant amount of monetary support LWMS gives to specific mission projects, which are selected annually at the annual LWMS Rally.

Ash Wednesday 2006
One of the features of this service is to make the sign of the cross with ashes on a banner as a sign of our repentance and need for a Savior. The banner remains in the sanctuary throughout the Lenten as a reminder of this rite and our need for salvation.

Eric Schleef memorial bell
The Eric Schleef Memorial Bell was cast by the Meneely Bell Co. of Troy, NY in 1930. Made of bronze (78% copper and 22% tin), the bell has a diameter of 26 inches, weighs approximately 350 pounds, and rings at a pitch of D above middle C. It is one of a 10-bell carillon installed in 1930 in the Ivie Memorial Chapel of the Messiah in Bethlehem, New Hampshire. The chapel was an Episcopal Church primarily used as a summer chapel because Bethlehem was a summer resort town for New Yorkers. The Bishop of that diocese indicated that the bells were bought by an executive at the F.W. Woolworth Co. in memory of the man’s wife.

Meneely bells are considered the "Tiffany" of bells. The Meneely Bell Co. began business in 1852. Its reputation as a bell foundry culminated in 1876 with the casting of the Centennial Bell, a reproduction of the Liberty Bell, which now hangs in the bell tower of Independence Hall in Philadelphia.

The Eric Schleef Memorial bell was dedicated in divine services on August 30 in thanksgiving for Divine Savior's 40th anniversary.

We pray that just as Eric witnessed to Jesus Christ as his Savior, so for many years this bell will call us to worship Jesus, who is the way and the truth and the life.

Youth Group India Mission Project
For several months the Youth Group has been gathering funds to help build a sanctuary for a congregation of Christians in India. In September of 2007 that dream was realized for Cross of Christ Lutheran church in India. Without Divine Savior's offering of $1,000, it would have been a financial impossibility for the parish of 35 adults to even dream of such a building. Before Cross of Christ had this building, members held services on a porch.
Private Confession and Absolution
Although as a church we have always had the opportunity to confess our sins to one another, by offering posted hours for Private Confession and Absolution with the pastor using the rite contained in our hymnal (CW p.154), we are intentionalizing our commitment to the importance of using this means of sharing God's forgiveness. The penitential season of Lent offers the logical time for this schedule.

Wonderful Wednesdays 2008
We had a great summer of Wonderful Wednesdays!  We toured the McNamara Florist warehouse where the children were able to see all of the flowers and learn how the orders are processed.  They even had the opportunity to each make their own floral arrangement!  We also visited Dillon Park in Noblesville for some fun on the playground and running through the sprinklers.  But our favorite was the tour of Traders Pointe Creamery in Zionsville.  When we checked in at the farm store, the lady told us that she would like us to catch a chicken.  If we brought it back to her, she would show us how to hypnotize it.  Well, Gayle Fields was the only brave one.  As always, Gayle went above and beyond, and instead of catching a chicken she caught a rooster!  Check out the pictures!
